Albinism Children

Albinism in Children is a group of genetic conditions that cause a reduction or absence of melanin pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes, leading to light-colored skin and hair and vision problems like light sensitivity, nystagmus, and strabismus. It is inherited, with most affected children born to parents who are carriers but don’t show symptoms. While there is no cure, managing sun protection with sunscreen and protective clothing and using vision aids can help manage the condition

A child with albinism has a need for significant eye and skin protection, low vision support, and social-emotional support. Key needs include using high-SPF sunscreen and protective clothing to avoid sun damage, wearing sunglasses, and utilizing low-vision aids like glasses or magnifiers to manage vision problems such as light sensitivity, blurry vision, and involuntary eye movements. Emotional and social support are also crucial to help them cope with being different and build self-esteem
